UK Film Council-backed films nominated for 14 BAFTA film awards
Films awarded Lottery funding to support their development and production have been nominated for 14 BAFTA Film Awards.

Films awarded Lottery funding to support their development and production have been nominated for 14 BAFTA Film Awards.
John Woodward, Chief Executive Officer of the UK Film Council says: "In 2009 British independent films were more popular with cinema-goers than they have been for a decade – that, together with today's news that three UK Film Council-backed films have been nominated in the BAFTA Outstanding British Film category, underlines the current strength of British filmmaking talent and the crucial importance of public investment in creative excellence."
Nowhere Boy is nominated for 4 awards:
- Outstanding British Film
- Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer (Sam Taylor-Wood)
- Supporting Actress (Anne Marie-Duff)
- Supporting Actress (Kristen Scott-Thomas)
In the Loop is nominated for 2 awards:
- Outstanding British Film
- Adapted Screenplay (Jesse Armstrong, Simon Blackwell, Armando Iannucci, Tony Roche)
Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll is nominated for 2 awards:
- Leading Actor (Andy Serkis)
- Music (Chaz Jankel)
Fish Tank is nominated for 1 award:
- Outstanding British Film
Bright Star is nominated for 1 award:
- Costume Design (Janet Patterson)
In addition, three short films supported by Lottery funding are nominated in the Short Film Category (I Do Air, Jade, and Off Season), and one film in the Short Animation category (Mother of Many).

- the world's first Digital Screen Network, which has invested in 240 digital screens in cinemas across the country, increasing film choice, bringing the 3D experience to a wider audience, and ensuring the UK has more digital screens than any other European country;
- over 200 film societies and independent regional film venues;
- UK film festivals, including the Edinburgh International Film Festival, the BFI London Film Festival and the Sheffield International Documentary Film Festival;
- Skillset, the UK skills and training industry body for the creative industries;
- First Light Movies, which has given 12,000 children and young people the chance to get involved in filmmaking; and
- FILMCLUB, an after school club which gives children in 7,000 schools free weekly access to classic and popular films.
