London - 9 December 2010

Many congratulations go to the team behind The King's Speech which swept the board at the British Independent Film Awards on Sunday night (5 December 2010). The film picked up five awards for Best Film, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Screenplay. We're proud to have supported the development and production of The King's Speech with £1 million of National Lottery funding.

Congratulations also to Monsters which scooped three awards for Best Director, Best Achievement in Production and Best Technical Achievement. The film was supported with distribution funding from the UK Film Council allowing it to be seen more widely throughout the UK and to increase promotional activity and awareness of the film through location-based social media.

The UK Film Council is also proud to have supported the following winners at the BIFAs Best Debut Director for Clio Barnard (The Arbor), Raindance Award for Son of Babylon and Best British short film Baby.
